4. Ford chassis condition is revealed.
Further inspection of the chassis highlights repair needed.
Most E83Ws were worked hard, and obviously this one is no exception.
Three out of the four cab mounts were found to be cracked, like this one shown here on the right.
They were removed for repair. We intended to remove all the brackets (including body mounts) anyway, to deal with and rust between the bracket and the chassis frame.
The shackle pins and bushes on the rear spring had worn to a horrendous state, and were replaced.
As the photos here show, this little Ford was rapidly being reduced to a proper 'basket case' jumble of bits - we're getting near to a total stripdown!
The photo to the right shows the chassis frame now leaning against the garage wall, with various chunks of 10cwt pickup dotted around the floor - on show here are the engine, crossply-shod roadwheels, axles, springs and a disassembled rear wooden pickup body.
Talking of the rear body, it will be used as a basis for a fully refurbished rear wooden pickup body. The rot is quite clear in the photo below, water having made its effects very apparent to the original wood pickup bed.
