2. Stripdown of the Ford begins.

Dismantling the E83W to see how much work is needed!.

The stripdown commenceth, more notes from Pat about pulling his E83W into its component parts.

stripping down the e83w
The stripdown has started, and once the front has been removed, the grot is more evident.

Note two vital items - the large bottle of penetrating fluid, and the equally large mug of tea! (on the scuttle beneath the windscreen).

It's difficult to appreciate just how many hours and hours of work have gone into reaching this stage. For example, it took a complete weekend just to remove the floor plates inside the cab. They are held in place by round headed 'roof type' bolts, with captive nuts in little steel 'cages'.

Over the years the heads of the bolts had become burred over by the drivers feet, especially in the footwell. Each screwdriver slot was re-defined with a small hacksaw - very awkward to get at! Then from underneath the vehicle, the bolts were given a good wire brushing, and a good soaking in penetrating fluid (a filthy job!). The cages were then gripped with various sizes of mole grips to stop them spreading.

Then each bolt was 'worked' a thread at a time, loosening and retightening, until the bolt was removed. It worked, only two sheared & will require removal or drilling out.
