Ford Sidevalve Book Review.

A great book for anyone who owns a Small Ford sidevalve

Ford Sidevalves book, by Bill Ballard

(Order your copy of Small Fords online here at Amazon)

Bill Ballard is well known in Sidevalve Ford circles for his interest in all things sidevalve Ford related, both uprights and the later 100E versions (inc the OHV 107E). To date there has been little published for this choice of cars, which, after all, was a huge seller for the blue oval from the early thirties through to the late fifties with the 100E and 107E saloons.

This softback book was first published in 2002, and does much to redress the balance. No matter what particular model of sidevalve interests you (in our case E83Ws!), there is much to read within the pages of this 160 page book.

A hint at the E83W content in this book

The book is laid out very logically, and includes many sections on the various 8hp and 10hp Ford saloon, and commercials, that Ford built both in the UK and export versions unique to the Australian market also. Some of the models include:

Model Y 8hp, Y 5cwt van, Model C, Fordson Tug, CX Deluxe, 7W Ten, 7Y Eight, E83W (woohoo!), E93A Prefect, E94A 8hp Roadster, E04A Anglia, E03A Prefect, Fordson E04C commercials, A53A, A54A, E494A, E494C, E493A, A493A, 103E Popular, 100E, 300E Thames, 100E Squire, 100E Escort and the 107E.

Part Two of this comprehensive book covers tips on restoration, how to strip down a sidevalve saloon or truck, and (handily) tips on how to put the car back together again!

Even if you know this already, there is a very in-depth set of Appendices that give table after table of information on all the above models, such as Briggs Body numbers, body codes, chassis and engine number guide, production figures, body colour charts (inc the Australian market), and details of further reading suggestions.

Throughout are many good clear black&white and colour photographs backing up the subject.

This book deserves to be on the bookshelf of any true sidevalve enthusiast. If you'd like to buy this great Ford book at a discounted price, have a look at the online Amazon bookshop (click here) to view their discounts.
