Some original press photos showing E83Ws
On this page are some examples of publicity shots showing various Fordson or Thames E83Ws. These olde pictures, especially the photographs, are very handy when trying to return a van or similar to original condition - if anyone has any press shots showing interiors of these variants, please consider sending them in as I get asked quite often about correct interior layouts etc. Scans of such information equally welcomed.
Thanks to Tony M for allowing me to borrow the first three photos on this page (van and 2 estate car pics) from his collection. Tony has some rare bits and pieces removed from a rotten 1938 van that he broke for parts, eg early steering box, wind up door window regulators, and so on - his advert can be found on the Fordson 10 cwt parts ads page.

"Thames 10cwt Van"
This is a great press photo of a standard van, running on 18" rims with brand new Firestones fitted. Only one mirror is fitted, although the lamps seen here are fitted with nice shiny chrome rims, whereas most examples were painted the same as the lamp shells. Also fitted here are nice black hubcaps with the Ford script on them - they look very nice, but were they ever sold with these scripted hubcaps as standard?? I'm not sure..

"Thames 7 Passenger Estate Car"
The estate car was very similar to the Martin Walter Utilecon version of the E83W, although the windows on the in-house estate car appear to be smaller, with a corresponding larger gap between the two windows.
That shown here is an export variant, probably destined for the US or Canada. Note the left hand drive, and single wiper for the driver. One mirror is shown, and a matching step. No badges are shown on this airbrushed image. Export variants are easily identified by the extra sidelights mounted on the front wings ('fenders'!) and chrome bumper with overriders. Airbrushed images such as this can't really be taken as gospel when deciding on originality as some poetic licence often creeps in.

"Thames 10 cwt Estate Car"
Here's another estate car press photograph, this one looking more like a standard UK example. Nice tall Firestone crossplies are fitted to this example, obviously recently fitted due to the chalk marks still on the sidewalls. Despite the image being labelled as a Thames, the lack of Thames badges suggest that this may be an earlier Fordson image.

Thames 10 cwt van with signwriting
The art of signwriting was still going strong when this photo of a great Thames badged version was taken.
